About

I'm Harishchandra Pal. This site is where I think out loud.

I work on data and software. Most days that means moving data from where it is to where it is useful, and arguing with the systems in between. I'm interested in the parts nobody writes down: the failure modes, the reasons a design was abandoned, the small tricks that took a week to find.

Why this site exists

Writing forces me to actually understand things. If I can't explain a problem clearly, I usually haven't solved it; I've just made it go away. So this is a notebook rather than a portfolio: notes get published when they're useful, not when they're finished.

Expect half-formed ideas, dead ends, and corrections. If something here is wrong, I'd genuinely like to know.
